Gandikota road trip.

Gandikota: The Grand Canyon of India.

A small village nestled away on the banks of the river Pennar sums up pretty much what this place is.
It somewhat resemble the rock formations of Arizona. A picturesque place, heaven for a photo buff..
The village is still bustling in the Gandikota fort which is a rare sighting in itself. Now, getting int the details.

Getting there:

Many of the visitors going there take their own vehicles to this place. the is the best way to travel to this place as there are not many other alternatives. It is around 300kms from Bengaluru and 400kms from Hyderabad. The road conditions from both these cities are pretty good.

Accommodation:

There is nothing special available to stay here. The only proper lodging facility is provided by "Haritha Resorts", which is at most times completely booked on weekends. Other than that, there is another place called "Gandikota Adventure Camp" where you can try for accommodation. So, other than that if you are a group of friends travelling and don't mind camping out then there is no need to worry. If you have yours own tents then you can pitch them right at the place where you'll have a beautiful sunrise. If you don't have your own tents, then just contact any local person and he'll arrange for your tents, food and a couple f beers if needed. As far as families are concerned, it is best to try for the above mentioned resorts.

Overall Experience:

It is a good place to spend a weekend with friends and family. A couple of places to see and that's pretty much it. Keep in mind, you are not going to get any fancy stuff to eat. You'll have to adjust with what is being provided by the locals. The camping experience will be a good one for beginners. You can also take part in some adventure activities like kayaking, trekking etc. in the Pennar river. Have a tour of the fort and visit a couple of view points. This is all the things that you can do here.

If you have sufficient time, then head over to Belum Caves from Gandikota. It is around 65kms from Gandikota. Belum caves are the largest and longest caves in the Indian subcontinent which are open to the public. Have an experience of them to complete your trip.

Tip:

The locals will try to extract some money from you. But, you don't need to pay anybody. Still, just to have their support and help if need, just keep them happy. Bargaining might bring you a lot of benifit. Also, do not forget to have a view of the Belum Caves. They a worth a visit.
